Busting the Multitasking Myth for Entrepreneurs – Get More Done With These Time Management Type

Watch Dallas Small Business Coach, Leslie Hassler as she shares why you need to bust the multi-tasking myth in order to get more done in your business.
When we talk about multi-tasking most women entrepreneurs think they have won a gold medal in that.  They proudly claim their ability to multi-task to get things done in both their business and personal life.
Don’t get me wrong.  I am a mom, a wife, a business owner with clients, a volunteer – I have a very full life and fight the temptation to multi-task every day.  Here’s the truth about multi-tasking.
You can only thing about any one thing at a time.  Now I’m talking about concentrating, thoughtful thinking. What confuses people to think they are multi-tasking is because they’ve had experience of doing a mundane task, and being able to think about something, or hold a conversation.
That isn’t really multi-tasking.  That is executing a habit that so ingrained that you don’t need to think about it, so your brain can concentrate on something else.
Multi-tasking as a forced habit is actually what slows you down.  Multi-tasking is what wears you down by the end of the day, ready to pull your hair out.
The key to getting more done is two-fold.

  1. Get some presence. Meaning if you are creating, if you need to pay attention to avoid mistakes.  Then give yourself the gift of presence and focus.  You’ll find that you can think more completely and produce better work, quicker. Work on one thing at a time.

  1. Give yourself the time you need to complete a task. If you need 30 minutes to get something complete, they don’t work on it for 10 minutes and then have to put it down later.

What tips and tricks do you have to gain presence and get more done?
