INSPIRING ENTREPRENEUR FOR EMPIRE BUILDERS
Meet Mandy Price, CEO and Star Carter, COO of Kanarys, a tech start up firm that seeks to facilitate diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace by gathering transparent insights to help identify and improve the DEI efforts of corporations.
Named to the Google, Black Founders Class, the company and the duo are breaking barriers inside and outside the workplace. Their venture capital efforts totaled $ 4.6 Million in January 2021, meaning that they are two of only 93 Black women who have raised over $1 million in funding.
The two cite in a Houston Business Journal interview that the name of their business comes from the use of canaries in coal mines. The canaries were used by miners to detect harmful gases before they could hurt the miners. Their business, Kanarys, acts similarly, helping detect potential toxic work environments and situations for employees.
