How are You Cultivating Confidence to have the results you want? - Part 1 "Do"

Summary:

This is part 1 out of 2 in a series.

Part 1 talks about how confidence leads to success and what you need to do to get you there. Here is a thought for you: I read an article in Global Entrepreneurship Monitor that said women entrepreneurs are 20% less confident than male entrepreneurs. Since confidence leads to success, this is a problem. In this video, I will tell you what confidence is, why you need to cultivate it, and how to cultivate it.

Confidence leads to success

I read an article in Global Entrepreneurship Monitor that said women entrepreneurs are 20% less confident than male entrepreneurs.

This is probably one of the reasons why we sometimes focus on women entrepreneurs more than male entrepreneurs at Your Biz Rules. (Not that we don't serve males, we do. I've had as many male entrepreneurs as clients as women).

I just think there are certain challenges, obstacles, and problems that women face that guys don't, and I understand those problems as I've been a woman entrepreneur for over 15 years. Since confidence leads to success, this is a problem.

Confidence leads to success

Confidence, by definition, is:

  • to trust oneself, one's ability, or aptitude
  • to engage successfully in the world

So when you're confident,

  • you're ready to rise to a new challenge
  • you're ready to take advantage of opportunities
  • you can deal with difficult situations
  • you can take responsibility for how you show up in the world

Confidence is an external thing

Confidence is what you do in life.  Here is a formula for you:

Be x Do = Have

Confidence is the “Do” part of the formula.

When the results grow, then the “Be” and the “Do” have to get stronger, too.

Confidence leads to success....And success breeds more confidence.

Road to Success

This is why you need to pay attention to this and cultivate confidence if you do not feel it.

Some people are uniquely confident. That's just their outlook on life. I am not one of them. I have to cultivate confidence. (Many people are surprised to hear this about me because I have worked hard on it. I have moments when I am very hesitant and don’t feel confident at all.)

But entrepreneurship, like the whole growth journey, is about stepping into the unknown each and every day. That's why I cultivate my confidence.

How to cultivate confidence

Woman on top of mountain.

I'm going to give you one thing to do: TRY SOMETHING NEW. That’s it.

When you try something new, you're building your confidence muscle.

It doesn’t even have to relate to business. It could be trying a new dish on the menu. If you constantly order the same thing at a restaurant, try something new. It could be overcoming the fear to do something that you want to do.

Here's why that's really important:

Entrepreneurship is on-the-job training.

Every day, you're stepping into something new.

If you can train your brain to not see NEW with FEAR, you are more confident the next time.

If your brain recognizes that you tried something new yesterday or even three weeks ago, and it was fine, then your brain helps you become more confident that you can handle the new.

What is crazy is that when you tackle something you have been afraid of, you might not even remember what it was you tackled.

Success comes from confidence.

You know you conquered something that was HUGE in your mind. Yet, as soon as you conquer it, the actual thing you conquered becomes SMALL in your mind. What remains is the confidence it took to conquer it.

Again, what you conquer does not have to be business-related.

Doing new things, being willing to step through fear, to seize the opportunity to be able to grow as a person is what builds and cultivates confidence.

You most likely have everything you need right now to be successful.

Could you learn a new skill? Totally.

Could you be more confident and ask for funding? Totally.

You have to cultivate confidence to create success.

Cultivate Confidence

That's the bottom line.

You have to cultivate confidence in order to create success. That is what you must do.

We will talk about what you need to Be in the next video/blog: 3 Keys to Becoming a Business Owner Who Accomplishes Results (Part 2 - Be)
