The Right Way for You To Grow and Scale Your Business

Summary: What happens when you are "doing" all the right things, but it isn’t working out as it should? Maybe you’ve invested in a magical formula solution or seen things work for your competition's or friends' businesses, but when you try it out, it falls flat.  Figuring out how to grow and scale your business in a way that feels good becomes a challenge.

Entrepreneurship is trial and error. You know that. You’ve had your fair share of errors, but you’re wondering where the win is. Do that too many times, and you will get more and more frustrated.

Today, I’ll walk you through the basics of how to grow and scale your business…not only to get the job done most efficiently but in a way that feels GOOD to you.

The Myth of The ‘One Size-Fits All’, Magical Business Formulas

The Myth of The ‘One Size-Fits All’

Before one of our clients came to us, they had a high-performing five-figure business and sought advice from a mentor flaunting one of those “secret magic formulas.”

It was one of those “Do business exactly like me and you will succeed” types of formulas that seem too good to be true. I’m sure this will come as no surprise, but they seem too good to be true because they are.

This business owner followed the mentor’s instructions exactly yet found that the business significantly shrank instead of the growth they hoped to accomplish.

After this discouraged client came to us, we asked about the formula she tried to implement into her business and immediately knew what had gone wrong. Regardless of how well it might have worked for the person who created it, the formula was not aligned with our client’s business.

It was completely out of alignment with what her business represented and the clients she served. Ultimately, this “one size fits all” magic formula almost put her out of business.

As soon as she came to us, we helped her discover the key role that alignment plays in finding success in your business. Let me share them with you.

Three Things You Need to Grow and Scale Your Business

1. Understanding The Importance Of Alignment In Your Business

Being open to new and innovative ideas is useful for growing your business. However, it’s crucial to be aware of how these new and innovative ideas can hinder us if we don’t consider their alignment with our business model before incorporating them.

1. Understanding The Importance Of Alignment In Your Business

Misalignment in your business can:

  • Stall growth

  • Take something that used to be easy and make it hard

  • Cost you money

  • Cost you time

  • Make your business feel like a burden

  • Cause Burnout

Surround yourself with people who can ask questions like: “But, wait… you hate that sort of thing. Why are you doing it?” or “That doesn’t really sound like you…Is there another way you could approach this?” or “I can see why that would work for others. But, it does not sound like how you run your business or the vision you shared for it.”

With these thoughts in mind, staying aligned with your true self and the business values you’ve worked so hard to maintain becomes easier and can bring you more joy in your business.

2. What’s “Easy” Gets Done

As entrepreneurs, we often find ourselves locked into doing what “makes sense” and forget to do what actually feels good.

We feel that being constantly busy is often seen as a badge of honor in business, but it's a misguided approach.

It leads to feeling like you're on a never-ending treadmill, busy yet stationary. The key is to shift focus from being busy to being productive.

True productivity lies in working smart, not just hard.

2. What’s “Easy” Gets Done

The 80/20 rule, or Pareto's Principle, applies perfectly here. It suggests that 20% of your effort can lead to 80% of your results. This is far more efficient than spending excessive time improving weaknesses, which typically requires much more effort for far less return.

Effective business growth is about simplicity and playing to your strengths. This approach aligns your efforts for maximum output with minimal input. It's not about following trends but finding the most efficient path to success.

For entrepreneurs, the goal should be to achieve more by doing less. Focus on what you do best and let that drive your business forward. This strategy enhances business growth and helps maintain a healthy work-life balance.

It simply tells us that we don’t need to do everything. The energy we’re expending on things that don’t fit into your business can be better channeled to build on and nurture the things that do.

3. Resist The 180. “Is That The Truth, Or Is It Where You Are Settling?”

3. Resist The 180. “Is That The Truth, Or Is It Where You Are Settling”

As someone who values family above all else, this situation did not fit into my vision for the future. Exchanging family time for success was simply not a sacrifice I was willing to make.

So, with these values and fears in mind, I spent way too many years trying to scale my business…just to get scared again and pull back. I was stuck in a cycle of “one step forward and two steps back” because I let this antiquated idea of what it meant to be a successful businesswoman get in my way.

I eventually learned that what might be true for someone else is not necessarily true for you. There are ways to create the life and business you want without sacrificing what you want most out of life.

The only way to find that out for yourself is to try it. Go all the way, no holds barred. No take-backs. No 180 turns.

Tailoring Your Unique Business Journey

A successful strategy for one entrepreneur will not automatically be the right choice for another. Business strategies are not universally applicable. They need to be as individual as the businesses themselves.

Choose the path to success that is right for you!

When considering new models or approaches for your business, there are a few critical points to consider.

  1. Any new strategy should align with your core business values. This alignment is fundamental.

  2. It's more productive to focus on your strengths rather than your weaknesses. Play to your advantage and look for ways to work smarter instead of harder.

  3. Ensure these new strategies do not compel you to completely overhaul your goals. Consistency in your objectives is crucial.

While managing these aspects independently is feasible, the journey is often smoother and more enriching with a supportive team.
